Schools closed, flights canceled for Hurricane Irene
Santo Domingo.- The country is on maximum alert for Hurricane Irene, which is expected to hit the eastern/north eastern shores of the Dominican Republic around midday.
The storm, which lashed the neighboring island of Puerto Rico last night, was upgraded to a category 1 hurricane overnight but its course has turned north-northwestwards. Irene thus becomes the first hurricane of the 2011 Atlantic season...

Tag renewal starts Thursday, RD$1.3B in revenue expected





SANTO DOMINGO. – The Internal Taxes Agency announced the start of renewals for the vehicle license plate label for 2010 starting Thursday, with which the Government expects revenue of RD$1.3 billion.
Interim Internal Taxes director Germania Montas said the motorists may buy the label in 268 points nationwide, by presenting a copy of the vehicle registration of the vehicles will pay 1,200 pesos up to model year 2005 and 2,000 pesos for 2006 or newer.
The labels may be renewed during the next three months in the savings and loans associations, the banks Desarrollo Industrial (BDI), Ademi, Vimenca, Federal Bank, Multipagos Expreso, ADOPEN and in Internal Taxes offices in the municipalities Las Terrenas, Pedernales, Jimaní, Villa Vásquez, Samaná and Sanchez.
